Yesterday we were given the privilege to have a meeting with Jim Stewart, Partner Development at Water4. It was a great opportunity to see their operations at Water4. It was such an inspiration to sit down with Jim and hear about how Water4 is making a difference in the world. Water4 is an Oklahoma based non-profit organization that makes it possible for communities from around the world without water to get their own water well. This provides fresh clean water to their community of people.
This is how Water4 makes that happen:
- Water4 reaches out to the people. They don’t just come in, build a water well, and leave. They are sure to provide hands-on training to local men and women. They teach them how to manually drill water wells, install hand pumps, repair existing pumps, and rehabilitate non-functioning wells. Difficult terrain and lack of roads in these rural areas makes it impossible for mechanized drills to reach the villages, so all wells are dug by hand. Water4 uses hand tools that can be packed for easy transport to even the most remote areas of the world.
- Water4 strives to empower people with the solution to their own needs. This is the best way to make a lasting change. Water4 equips the drill teams and they train them with the tools they need to start their own well-drilling business. Water4 also trains the drill teams to equip communities with multiple wells; this reduces the time women and children spend walking and waiting for water. By the time natural wear and tear takes its toll on the equipment, the drill teams have earned enough income to invest in tool repair and replacement, and can then grow their business.
- Solving the world’s leading humanitarian crisis requires ongoing community support. Water4 meets this demand by constantly doing research and working on development by being flexible and adapting to the culture. They listen and learn from their in-country partners to better refine their strategy. By doing this they are able to provide the technology that can grow with the community.
Crowned Coffee’s mission: “A Coffee for a Change”
What we’ve learned is inspiring to the whole Crowned Coffee team. The passion and desire Water4 showcased, which was to make a change in the world, fits the Crowned Coffee mission.
The meeting with Jim Stewart yesterday, along with touring and learning about water4, was enough to justify our involvement. It looks like we’ve found our first task. The task is for Crowned Coffee to partner with Water4 to help dig water wells in Ethiopia. Water4 informed us of the water crisis in Ethiopia. We at Crowned Coffee heard this need, and we have been called to fulfill it. Here is our first opportunity! Help us in our journey as we partner with Water4 to help the people of Ethiopia.
We will continue to write about this partnership and keep our loyal customers updated as we see this mission to the end. We have a long road ahead of us, and HE will provide.
Thank you for supporting Crowned Coffee. Without you, our dreams of changing the world one cup of coffee at a time would never become a reality

A few weeks back I traveled to Tulsa for the Ryan Adams and Jenny Lewis show, which was top notch in my book friends. While I was there I stopped into Chimera Cafe to have a latte before heading over to stand outside in line for the doors to open. It felt very warm and earthy inside. I took a seat along one side of the long bar that runs in the heart of the shop and looked at the menu. I decided upon a vanilla latte and placed my order. While I waited I pulled open my iPad and did a little work and social surfing. My cup arrived and had the most wonderful latte art adorned across the top layer. I picked up my cup, took my first drink and was completely in awe of how amazing this drink was. I was not expecting it to be so good. Easily the best latte I have ever had and so good I am going to give it the top three spots on my Best Lattes of All-Time. I highly encourage you take the time to stop in at Chimera Cafe and place an order. Spend some time with your friends around the cup. Enjoy the atmosphere. Make some new friends. Order breakfast, lunch or dinner. The Avocado BLT looked delicious. This is a great place to grab a beer before or after the show, the mixed-drink selection is great, as is the wine menu. Stop in and let me know what you got.
